That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it, just that it was different

This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it, just that it was different.
I love the descent into chaos that is threaded throughout the book, although I don’t want to add any spoilers here. Let’s just say the tension escalates the further along you get and because the point of view changes with each chapter, the reader is not only privy to internal dialogue but also to the external ramifications that result from certain actions.
That these two are miles apart in places is what is so unsettling. Are the insane really unbalanced, or is it simply the observations of the ‘sane’ that make them seem this way? It’s a question that came up over and over for me.
Gothic horror in places and almost graphic novel in others, Kev the Vampire works brilliantly as a whole. The complexity of prose is such that I’m sure everyone will take something different away. I suspect a re-read will do likewise for myself.
