About the Author
Nick Russell is the winner of numerous heritage awards, and is currently president of the Hallmark Society, speaking for heritage in Victoria's Capital Regional District. His interest in heritage developed with the rescue and restoration of various historic homes throughout the Canadian West. Russell is a former reporter and editor who currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia.

Best RV Book I Have Ever Read!

For a true look at what it is like to sell your home and travel full time in an RV, this is the best book I have ever read on the topic. While too many of the books about full time RVing gloss over the problems associated with the lifestyle, Meandering Down The Highway tells both the good and the bad, and leaves you with the certain knowledge that the good far outweighs the bad. Russell covers every step of the way from the day they decided to become full timers to the process of selling their home and a lifetime of possessions, saying goodbye to their friends and family, learning the secrets of the RV lifestyle as they went, and the first year they spent traveling. Also included are their steps in selecting a mail forwarding service, changing their residency to Texas, a look at many of the places they visited in their travels, and the people they met. You will learn what it is like for a new RVer to drive a monster motor home through narrow road construction zones, what it feels like to leave friends and family behind, how to adjust to the extended family of RV nomads, the joys of digging a 36 foot RV out of the sand after getting stuck in the middle of the night, and the pros and cons of membership RV parks, boondocking, and RV clubs Add to all of that the fact that Russell is a very, very funny writer, and I guarantee that you will love this book as much as I did! How much did I love it? Immediately after finishing it, I ordered a subscription to his Gypsy Journal RV newspaper and purchased all of the back issues! Count me as a fan of this relative newcomer to the RV writing field.

Good information - and a few laughs, too.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm a "sometimer" as they call those of us who meander around the country in our RVs part of the time, but I want to be a "fulltimer" like the author and his wife.
If you are thinking about buying an RV, traveling full-time in an RV, or even camping during vacation in an RV, you need to read this book.
One caveat - at the beginning of the book, I wasn't sure I was going to like the author much. His habit of refering to his wife as "Miss Terry" annoyed me. I don't do well with sweet talk. Some of his early jokes weren't very funny. And, I almost decided he was a tight wad wanting something for nothing!
Well, that was before he let loose and I got to know the "real" Nick. He's overweight, (like me and so many of the rest of us), he goes down the road thinking about the next good place to eat, he doesn't hike much, he likes guns, tolerates cats, loves his wife and his country, and he was RVing when he couldn't afford it. He is uh, opinionated...well, outrageously outspoken, and just the kind of guy I'd like to sit around a campground and pick arguments with. I bet he gets red in the face when he's mad!
By the middle of the book, I was annoying my husband by reading aloud to him from this book. I was laughing - well, roaring, really, at some of Nick's astute observations ("she must have left her personality in her other clothes") and bad boy outbursts! I'm glad I'm not Terry. Love his book, but if I was her, I might have to kill the sucker. Naw, I have one much like him watching TV in the living room.
Seriously...buy this book. It's pretty cheap (he needs the money) and if you are interested in RV's or traveling, YOU NEED this book. We've been RVing for 17 months now, and I just found this great guy's work. Hope you are luckier - since you can make a list of places NOT to go as well as places to go after reading this book.

Just like being there

Nick Russll exceeded my expectations with his highly detailed description of full time days and nights on the road. I particulary enjoyed his willingness to "name names" and be objective whether describing positive or negative events. The book definately helped me in the evolution of my thought process relative to "if, when and how to go full timing."
