About the Author
T L Huston grew up in Ripley, Ohio, a small riverfront town about fifty miles east of Cincinnati. He currently resides in Tampa, Florida with his wife, a Beagle named Sparky, and a morning commute that would challenge the patience of Jobe. Many of his early life experiences were spent exploring the hills and river banks of the Ohio Valley, and a few of those experiences have found their way into his novels. The influences of Patterson and Ludlum are quite evident in his writing style, which is to say his novels are easy to read and grab you from the very beginning.

A little predictable, but enjoyable
By megmet
I read "Johnny Vegas - The death of innocence" by T L Huston. I thought it was an okay book, but had quite a predictable story line.
I am not sure who edited the book, but there were a lot of grammatical errors which distracted me while I was reading the story (e.g. to too two, your you're, there their, and my personal favourite "I was at their beckon call.").
The love story aspect was really weak, as I felt that people meeting each other and falling hopelessly in love after one dinner date, only happens to six year olds.
Overall, the plot was a great idea, killing off criminals who slipped through the cracks. I think with better editing I would have enjoyed it more.
The book ended on quite a cliff hanger... What will happen to Johnny Vegas?? ~ I'll have to wait to find out!

Great Testosterone Fest
By Momma Says Read

Johnny Vegas is something that is not typically in my preferred reading genre, but this book was decent. The pace was okay, I would have liked some things to happen a little faster and some of the development felt cumbersome, but overall it was decent.
The action was good and when you put yourself into the unbelievable world of military cloak and dagger, you can suspend some disbelief. It reminded me of when I would I would A-Team with my Dad as a kid, a jeep would flip over and burst into flames, then it would cut to the scene where the irritated occupants would walk away with nary a scratch. You had to just believe it to enjoy the story. Differently from A-Team however the actions, circumstances and outcomes were not white-washed for television.
Houston was very good about introducing Johnny to the reader. We got to know him very intimately, which may have been a mistake. Primarily there were some things he did that felt out of character. There were some things he had not figured out early on, that to me seemed like a no-brainer that took him a long time to comprehend. That part of the story was not as satisfying, but it was still worth hanging on.
The action was fantastic and the writing pretty solid as was the proofing. I would recommend this book for folks that are looking for a good mercenary, testosterone fest!

Review
I really enjoyed this book! It was captivating from the very beginning. The story moved at an excellent pace. I loved the characters and thought they were described in such a way that made you feel like you knew them and could get a very good visual on what they would look like. The attention to detail was amazing. This book elicits a range of emotions from the time when Johnny loses his parents to the time he finds the happiness he has been missing at the end of his life with Jenny.
I enjoyed the way the author had the characters meet, and the incompatibility of their professions. It kept you guessing the entire time as to how and the relationship would/could evolve.
In the end I thought it was not very realistic when they had their final shootout and the father didn't change his way of thinking with regards to his daughter.
I did notice a couple of grammatical errors. Page 53 "Justice will be served here night... "(should be tonight) Page 98 "Unfortunately it usually *it* gets...". (second "it" is in error)Page 302 "We'll leave Jenny's ca...." (should read We'll leave Jenny's car).
Overall I really enjoyed the opportunity to read this book. I think this author is talented and has a good writing style. It is a fast pasted story line that keeps the pages turning quickly! I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family and would love to read a sequel if one were to be written.
