About the Author
Richard Dunn, otherwise known as Dick Dunn, was born in Vancouver, Canada. After serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter pilot in Germany and France at the height of the Cold War, he instructed on the T-33 jet trainer. He joined Air Canada in 1965, retiring in December 2000 as a B747-400 captain. Since then he has travelled the globe, reporting on his journeys. Here is a selection of his reports.

The madness of love for the exotique

In the honored tradition of travel journals, any reportage of Dick Dunn's multifarious travels and expliques of the strange, different, exotic, distant and mind boggling places of this earth would be overwhelmed with the gonfalon of appreciation by readers hungry for the riches of his insight.
For despite ny existing library of such works, the author's shrewd appreciation of the world's intriguing locations married to his easy style of story telling must lull one into contentment. In some 300 pages of prose and pictures, Dunn unveils what we knew but even more of what we did not about the glowering image of the Easter Island heads, of Hadrian's Wall, of the north, the south, the east and the west of what fascinates. Those places I have seen come now in a new perspective in this book. But those I shall never see myself now come alive in the mind and heart.
Recommended for the adventurous, the curious, the madly absorptive reader whose mind Dick Dunn give flight to, in the stimulus of revelation.

I cannot recommend it highly enough

This finely written book was an education in travel and history. Every chapter took me on a new journey of my own and I have chosen to share the pages with friends as a gift. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I loved the character of the man who has challenged himself to see the world through the eyes of an individual, not as the follower of sheep on the tourist trail. While I know Dick, I discovered so many things about him that I
had not known before so this made the reading even more appreciated. Do yourself a favor, curl up for a good read and travel along with him.

A Wonderful Travel Book

Dick Dunn has been everywhere ... all right, not EVERYwhere but pretty close to it. He traveled all over the world as a commercial airline pilot and then did it all over again in retirement. The result is his interesting book of travel adventures, A Journal Of Journeys.
Dick Dunn has been from the Great Wall of China to the mountains of Peru, from Alaska to Panama. Russia, Costa Rica, Utah, Ireland, it seems like there is no place he hasn’t visited. He writes about being stopped by machine-gun-toting soldiers in Jordan, listening for spirits on Easter Island, hiking in the footsteps of the Klondikers, and much more.
Before he was a commercial airline pilot, he was a fighter pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He obviously maintains a deep interest in aviation. Near the end of his book he relates the story of a U.S. Air Force fighter jet that crashed near Vancouver in 1954. His touching and respectful account of the events surrounding that crash is a fitting way to end a book written by such a flying veteran.
If you’re looking for a travel book that touches all corners of the globe, this one is very good.
