About the Author
Jayne Flaagan grew up in North Dakota and made the big move to Minnesota many years ago.  She lives with her husband and her goofy dog named Ella. She also has three great children.

Jayne's education and experience includes many years in both Elementary and Early Childhood education.  She also has degrees in Advertising/Public Relations and French and can speak Spanish.

She loves to travel, read, do crossword puzzles, take walks and spend time with her family, as well as having various other hobbies and past times.

Books have always been a huge part of Jayne's life and reading to children is something that she feels is critical to every child's learning succcess.

She also ran her own Home Childcare Center for over 10 years, as well as a Parent and Child Center for over seven years.   Books have always been a huge part of her life and reading to children is something that she feels is critical to every child's learning experience.

Jayne grew up on a farm with a Husky for a pet and she has many fond memories of him.  When it was time to get a dog for her own family, she knew that it had to be a Husky.  Huskies are fun, lovable and have lots of energy!  Jayne and her family had a Siberian Husky named "Camper," for 10 years before he passed away.  For the last five years, they have had Ella, who is a mixture of two different Husky breeds.

Ella has provided so much joy and entertainment for Jayne's own family and she decided that she wanted to share the joys of having her with as many other families as she could. Thus, "Ella the Doggy" book series was born!

All of Ella's books include entertaining pictures of Ella, as well as interactive text that allows the children in your life to enjoy and learn about both Ella and themselves.

I loved this book about Ella the Doggy! What a great book to read to children, or for them to read if they can! This book is filled with pictures of days in the life of Ella. . . scenes of the fall, or autumn season. . And, most children love animals. . . especially dogs.The story is easy to read, and the author has asked a question on many of the pages to prompt children to think about what was on that page, or relate it to something in their life--taking the experience of this story to another level.

I would highly recommend this book for children. I think it would be a great asset for teachers to have as a resource for a lesson on autumn. And, as a grandmother, I will enjoy reading it to my smaller grandchildren!

Ella is a beautiful dog and an enticing playmate. No child could resist following along as Ella romps through her favorite places, crunching through fallen leaves, tunneling through tall stands of hardy field flowers and watching her people family prepare for autumn holidays.

Perfect for both pre-readers and emergent readers, the pictures give excellent clues for little ones to anticipate the accompanying text message. This will be a favorite "I wanna read this story again, please."

A very sweet story. It gets the kids and the "kid in you" involved in Ella's life. I like that the author asks the children questions, so that they are involved in the story, and they're able to contribute to it. The use of actual photos instead of illustrations makes it very real, especially if the family reading this has a dog. I could see a child saying that their dog did some of the same things in the book. It's a book I'd read again. Great job!

Gold fever & 2 murders 70 years apart

Here we have the fifteenth book in the Charlie Parker mystery series, by writer Connie Shelton. In this tale, Charlie and husband Drake have taken a temporary assignment in Skagway Alaska to fly tourists to mountain cabins, and resupply those modern day gold diggers during their weeklong adventure. In no time at all a family discovers not one but two dead bodies in a cave adjacent to their cabin. The discovery turns Charlie and Drake's sedate, working vacation helicopter assignment into something Charlie Parker knows even better than aviation: a murder case, and it's circuitous resolution. In this case, the solution takes Charlie back through time, even to the gold rush of 1898 when a certain Joshua Farmer allegedly `discovered' gold, and then inextricably vanished. Farmer's disappearance in the late nineteenth century is just one mystery wrapped inside another mystery in this well crafted book. Another is the fact that the second body appears to be of much more recent vintage, from around 1975.
Shelton has really come into her own here. With masterful flashbacks, interwoven plot lines and fine use of characterizations, she's wrought an intriguing and fast-paced murder tale that changes directions, twists into blind alleys and back again faster than miners in a cave. The voices are constant throughout, characters true to their inflections, clues and leads hang together and overall the story is well presented and rewarding. It's obvious that Shelton has done her homework, as the names, dates, historical references and technical details make sense and fit. Even the atmosphere of Skagway Alaska comes across as chilly and forbidding, yet warm in human terms, and suffused with a certain charm that makes readers want to visit.
By way of disclaimer, this reviewer is a former helicopter pilot by trade, so some of the critiques are based on that. There are references to flying that might have garnered more attention, such as the effect of weather in that part of the world, and the actual operation, loading, handling and delicacy of the machines, but those are items common readers don't need for the story to work. The romance between Chuey and Mina could have been explored a bit more, and Gerta's lack of recall about Mike Ratcliff was a stretch,(especially considering their lusty romp) but that's small potatoes. Drake and Charlie locate a gold horde in an unstable cave, and the collapse is a bit predictable, but the crisis is well presented and believable.
All in all, Legends Can Be Murder may well be Connie Shelton's best effort yet. Readers of the Charlie Parker mystery series will find this book very rewarding.

Charlie Parker returns after a brief hiatus she and hubby Drake land a seasonal contract with Gold Trail Adventures operated by Kerby Allen in Skagway Alaska Gold Train Adventure gives city dweller the opportunity to have a adventure vacation of a lifetime. Charlie and Drake will be air lifting those vacationers up to cabins in the mountains surrounding Skagway that have no electric, no internet, nothing except a emergency satellite phone to be used only in emergences. While in those cabins some for as long as two weeks those vacationers will have the chance to relive the life of the late 19th century Alaska gold rush pioneers . Those hardy souls will have the equipment to pan the streams and caves looking for gold. What they don't know is Kerby himself has dropped some gold dust and a nugget or two in the vicinity so that some of those on these adventures will indeed be finding gold then bragging to all "We found Gold" which of course will be bringing lots more business to Gold Trail Adventures. Early on the book we flip flop alternating from 1890's in flashbacks to the present day in subsequent chapters. The cast changes in the years between those chapters but some offspring of the people from those days play prominent in the present. Although the cast changes some of the locations and businesses have lasted throughout the story of Skagway. The book has a lot of major players to keep track of. They include Kerby Allen, Berta Gengler, Mina Gengler (Bertha`s Daughter and a local newspaper reporter , Sam Branson, Joshua Farmer and Harry Weaver. Connie Shelton keeping her style of giving you just enough information to start pointing fingers early on to who may have involved is a murder and in this murder you do not find out until the closing chapter and no you will not pick the guilty party prior to then. But I'm not going to spoil it for you your just going to have to purchase LEDGENTS CAN BE MURDER to find out . I don't think I will be spoiling anything by saying that Charlie, Drake and Freckles at some point are going to have to return to Skagway to retrieve something they left behind and just did not have time to do so right now.

The best Charlie Parker mystery ever!

When I began to read this book, I was prepared not to like it as well as other books in the series. Why? Well, I am not a big fan of the old West stories and that includes the Gold Rush into Alaska. But I love Charlie and Drake, and wanted to see how the new puppy (Freckles) was, so I read on. Several hours later I forced myself to stop reading and go to bed...knowing all I would want to do the next day was finish the book! (I did, of course!) It was WONDERFUL! The dual story between Charlie and Drake's Alaskan trip and the story of Joshua Farmer and the Gold Rush was exciting. Even when the story of Michael Ratcliff was included into the mix, I had no trouble switching between stories. In fact I could hardly wait to see how they would all tie together! I have to say Connie Shelton keeps getting better and better as she writes this series. The characters in both the modern day story and the Gold Rush story came alive.
This is the 15th book in the series, but it can be enjoyed on it's own as Ms Shelton gives you the background details needed to make the story complete. I of course would recommend reading the entire series in order-but by all means, don't miss the chance to read about the gold rush and the "fever" it can still cause today. You don't want to miss this exciting book!

About the Author
Dr Diane D Addie is a veterinary surgeon and virologist who, after 8 years in small animal practice, returned to the University of Glasgow, Scotland, to research into feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) and feline coronavirus (FCoV). Her PhD thesis was entitled "Studies on the humoral immune response to feline coronavirus." The consequence of refusing to experiment on laboratory cats was that her studies were on animals who had become infected with FCoV, or sick with FIP, in the natural course of their lives. She is immensely grateful to all those cats and to their veterinarians and guardians who contributed samples from them, which made her research possible. Dr Addie has published over 50 refereed veterinary and scientific papers and has contributed chapters to many veterinary textbooks. She has spoken at international veterinary and scientific conferences. In 2003 she received the Amoroso award for outstanding contributions to small animal studies by a non-clinical member of university staff. She served on the council of Cats Protection for 20 years and is currently a patron of the Celia Hammond Animal Trust. She is author of a YouTube channel and the catvirus.com website. Must read for cat breeders!

Dr. Addie is one of the foremost veterinary experts on the topic of corona virus and fip. This book is a must read for any cat breeder and has much practical advice on how to deal with the coronavirus in the cattery setting. Dr. Addie answers many questions that are difficult to find clear answers to on the Internet or even from a regular veterinarian. Her love and devotion for Cats and people is clearly evident through her writing and I have personally experienced what a special and remarkable person she is on an individual level as she has so generously given her time and expertise to correspond with me regarding questions that I wanted clarification on. I am extremely grateful that she wrote this book and I wish more vets. would become familiar with her research.

My dear friend Maria Bonino lost her lovely cat Luca because of a rare disease, named FIP. Maria has recently offered me the book "Feline Infectious Peritonitis and Coronavirus" written by Diane D. Addie PhD. I've read it with big attention and a great pleasure because it is of an excellent level and contains sources of additional important information.

The subject is vast. FIP is lethal for 10 % of cats infected by Feline Coronavirus (It is shed in the faeces) but pitifully this disease continues to be little known for Veterinarians, breeders of cats or simply people who love cats. FCoV is a Coronaviridae. Feline Coronavirus belongs to the Groupe IV de Virus in ARN (a ribonucleic acid) simple chain of positive polarity (ssRNA) so it is very virulent because it uses directly the genome of the host to produce its own proteins where from the infection is very fast.

Doctor Diane D. Addie as a true professional, realizes one cutting-edge research. Between other methods, she applies the immunological conventional test ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay) intended to detect a protein or antibodies FCoV in the blood and the test RT-PCR in the viral genetic material that she gets via samples coming from feline patients (naturally infected with FcoV) to confirm the origin of the virus infecting the cats.

My Favorite Writer Comes Home

You can tell Michael Lister's new book "A Certain Retribution" is personal. You can feel it in the writing. The characters so real you feel as though you know them if you don't and if you're from the south you definitely know someone like them. His description of the is river so beautiful he takes you right there among the cypress stumps, and the images of the town he paints in your head are like something from Norman Rockwell paintings. Lister is a masterful storyteller. That is a given. But when he brings his story home it becomes even better -- if possible. Keep them coming Mr. Lister. I eagerly await your next book.

He did it again

True poetry. pamama city and surrounding area at its finest. Michael's writing takes me back to my second home. I can follow him down why 22, turning at the stop light right to the dollar store. small town at its best with the characters coming to life as past friends .Once again Michael has made me homesick, for the small tow life full of common threads and drama. Just enough sex crime,and mystery to keep you riveted . well worth the read, Thanks Mike , keep em coming.

Realistic Characters

The moment this book began I fell in love with the setting and the characters. Even though they weren’t experiencing the best moment of their lives, I wanted to be in this story just to meet and work along some of these characters. The author did a great job of creating three main characters who you will love for different reasons, Sean, Mark, and Beverly.

This book is a murder mystery and we get to experience it from a lot of different POVs. It worked well, the only thing that made it confusing sometimes was when the author would switch POVs mid chapter, but if you take your time to read you will rarely find yourself getting lost.

I love how much attention animals got in this book, Pepe and Buddy helped humanize some characters. I’m also a big fan of the short chapters, though it doesn’t mean the book is short, it just makes reading seems swifter. Also, if you’re a fan of romance…this book is for you also. The author excels at building relationships. As for the climax, the big answer to the murder mystery, I didn’t see it coming yet it didn’t leave me with my jaw on the floor.

I would read this again mainly for the entertaining cast of characters. Favorite character, Sean.

I wanted to do nothing but read this book!

Everything else could wait; this was too interesting, exciting and addictive to stop reading.

I'm an avid reader, and this new author has written an exceptional first novel. It didn’t feel like I was reading a novel written by a novice, just the opposite, in fact. I was very impressed with the entire story line. The murder/mystery was really fascinating and different. I cared about each and every one of the well-developed characters and their families, as well as their pets.

This book had details and explanations enough not to confuse the reader, but to entice the reader to turn the pages. I frankly, couldn't put it down.

I hope Lori James will honor us and write a second novel following these characters. I want to know more about them and how their lives are progressing. I just plain want more from this author!

Do yourself a favor and grab this book, it's very well written. I loved it!

I would like to say that some of us, myself included have been out of school for so long, it's hard to believe the rules of punctuation have changed. Please don't let these one star reviews about commas stop you from reading this gem. This book is not difficult to read, it's difficult to put down.

Absolutely wonderful!

I purchased Poetic Justice yesterday afternoon. Because of the author's writing style, I became so involved in the lives of the characters. I could NOT stop reading until I had completed the entire book. What a great way to spend my time! I found myself relating to each of the characters on some level.

Congratulations, Lori James! I hope that you write a sequel to this book.

Pretty but cheap.

Its a beautiful book. How could anyone not love an illustrated Sherlock Holmes?! Unfortunately within minutes of opening this book the spine cracked right on the front edge and there is no way to hide it. I intended for this to be a gift but now I cant give someone a book with a huge crack on the cover! It really is unfortunate that this beautiful book was so cheaply made.

Creative and creepy - a must!

Beautiful book, an absolute must for Doyle fans. The collection of stories are thoughtfully curated. Clever references to these favourites are peppered throughout the illustrations. Check out the busy scene on the inside back cover -- how many Holmes references can you spot secreted in the artwork? The paper is lovely and thick, so when you leaf through the pages you can feel the weight of these classic tales and their creative rendering in ink. My son, an avid Doyle fan, snapped this up the moment I showed him and headed off to his room to read. Mystery, solved.

This is a really inventive take on some old classics, good for children or adults. The illustrations are fun, with a cartoon or comic book feels to them. The twelve stories that makes up this collection are great, classic Holmes adventures, which are made vibrant by the illustrations. The book itself feels sturdy and looks really nice on my bookshelf.

About the Author
GRAHAM HIGSON lives in an outlying Pennine village and shares this blustery environment with a growing collection of books, his understanding wife and a workshop piled high with offcuts of oak. His two grown-up children are among his best friends. He has a BSc degree in technology (in which he managed to sneak a course about playwriting), and an MA in Professional Writing. Having written professionally for over 25 years (and then some, he says), Oak Seer: A Supernatural Mystery was the first of his published novels, followed by Flither Lass, a historical novel set during the First World War. His fictionalized memoir How Much for a Little Screw? was based on his 22 years as a hardware man. He lists his hobbies as swimming, reading, watching lots of screen drama, helping to republish the novels of Leo Walmsley, and searching for that elusive moment of self-discovery.

Belly laughs galore

I hate DIY with a vengeance – the Black and Decker power drill my best man gave me at my wedding 20 years ago is still sitting unopened in my shed – but I had no problem reading and laughing my head off about it in this wonderfully warm and funny account of a local hardware shop going under somewhere ‘opp north’ in Little Sniffingham. It’s a very topical story – the last shop like Graham’s in my native Kingston upon Thames was also forced out by unsympathetic banks, parking charges and anonymous chain stores a year ago – and a sad one too, since I can’t buy a 100 watt light bulb anywhere now (Wickes and B & Q are not allowed to sell them) except…erm…at my local newsagent.
So what of the book itself? Well, it’s as cheeky as its title, and features a stellar cast of characters including the prophetic and mouse-retrieving M.D. (could see Ronnie Barker playing him, a real Arkwright from Open All Hours), hapless apprentice Greville (a likely David Jason from the same series), punky and pierced Sapphire, blunt and ever-cheerful ex-actress Sharon, and of course the much put upon but ever (except for one occasion) sanguine Graham himself. What a great sit-com this would make, the humour is so visual and the gags just keep a coming. Highlights for me were Rita’s prune nipples, Trace’s battery-operated rabbits, Greville’s heroics with an aerosol glue can, Sharon’s fab one-liners like “I can spot a bloke with reptile dysfunction at fifty paces”, and of course the shop Christmas do which had me literally falling off my chair. “It’s nobbut a twig,” says the M.D. when shown Rita’s attempt at a Christmas tree. “I’ve got bigger bristles on my chin!”
“There’s no such thing as a happy ending”, Graham tells Greville when his curious assistant asks why he is jotting down notes for a memoir, but he’s wrong. At the end of this book I was smiling from ear to ear.

LOL funny and a great look back on the good old ...

LOL funny and a great look back on the good old days of your neighborhood hardware store. Graham will take you through his life of trying to stay afloat in his hardware store in a little town in England with his Eclectic group of workers, including the "Old Man" who seems to have been there for 100 years. Not to mention the cast of characters that enter their life at the hardware store on a daily and weekly basis. At one point they even start selling ladies undergarments to help bring in some extra revenue. I highly recommend this book to anyone that love's a good laugh with a little bit of nostalgia.

Can't Wait for the Movie

This is an excellent book. Well written with plenty of clever humor and a just enough pathos to keep the reader flicking the pages as fast as possible. I really can see this translated into a movie, given how well Mr. Higson draws his characters and brings us into the small world of shop-keeping in a struggling town. Highly recommended.

World Travel in the 80's and 90's! In the 1980's there was no Global Community. There were mostly independent countries. Each very strongly nationalistic and with their own specific languages and culture. The United State was much the same, as few of us traveled outside of our country. Like the rest of the countries in the world, the only culture we knew was the one we were raised in. My travels as a businessman thrust me into the heart of these countries and their cultures. The differences in cultures from country to country varied significantly. In many cases the clash in cultures was quite a shock, especially to a novice American traveler. Which is why I refer to my travels as being "Lost in the World". During the years I traveled internationally, it was rare to have American businessmen in many of the countries I worked. There was no “Google”, no “Wikipedia” or ”Internet” to tell me what to expect, how to behave or what the consequences of getting in trouble could be in these countries. I tried to walk a straight line, but the world kept throwing me curves.

About the Author
Ed Zukusky is a retired businessman and international traveler turned author. He has visited over 40 countries and has worked in many of these countries for extended periods of time. This extended exposure in a variety of countries has given him a unique view of the world and a great respect for it. He lives in Bradenton, Florida with his wife and spends his spare time fishing and playing with classsic cars.

About the Author
Kyle Bravo is a cofounder of the printmaking studio Hot Iron Press, teaches high school visual art, and manages the print shop at Louisiana Artworks, a center for visual art in New Orleans. He is a founding member of the Front, an artist-run exhibition space in New Orleans, and his work has been shown in a multitude of exhibitions both nationally and internationally. He is the former organizer of the NOLA Bookfair, an annual event in celebration of independent publishing and alternative media. He lives in New Orleans.

A whole lot of knowledge

Typically I do not write reviews, but typically someone isn't as incorrect as that other reviewer.

He seems to be bothered by the fact that these articles are "all copies from mostly hand written material." The original material is from ZINES; what did you expect, an illuminated manuscript? Zines are all about doing things yourself, and there's a whole lot of information here that really makes you realize that personally participating in the process is the most empowering way to do something.

Don't be turned off by that negative review. Grab this book and start making stuff.

just cause it's DIY doesn't mean it sucks

This book is an awesome resource for anyone who is into doing things themselves, from crafting to cooking, and is an inspiration for any would-be DIY-er. Its handwritten and cut and paste content are part of what make it great- you can tell that the contributors to this book really are making stuff and doing things themselves, hence the thrown-together zine aesthetic. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, or can't take looking at something that has not been sanitized by some huge corporate publishing company with an overpaid copy editor, maybe this book isn't for you. But for the rest of us, this is an amusing and inspiring read meant as a catalyst for action and fun!

Inspiration and Much Useful

I too was suprised at some of the negative comments.

I have my own copy of this book and the publisher (microcosmpublishing) is

very clear its layout isn't super perfect... it is photocopied from 'zines, which actualy gives is a nice authentic feel, and it's almost always legible.

There is a lot here from food to clothes to health, to other DIY, saving money,

from pratical necessities, to areas related to fun/art/entertainment (see the full description) It's not perfect, and you may need to pick and choose as I have what

parts are most useful to you, but for the money you get a very good deal

and more than enough areas (if you are at all interested in DIY) to glean

ideas and inspiration from.
