'Overview of TITLE IS UNTITLED' To look at things like we've never looked at before - we present a unique book of facts blended with fiction to spread more awareness in our society. Facts about various problems in the present urban and rural societies of India are presented wrapped in fiction, like case studies to elaborate them.
Women of our country are often victims to most issues like rape, marital rape, prostitution, child marriage, child trafficking and others. Not to ignore the men who are also victims to women framing them in false cases of impotency and domestic violence. There are eleven chapters presented in this book which deal with different such cases - both men and women - and try to create a little awareness in our educated society.
The first chapter is a classic example of how many women are treated in our country, married off to older men or their own relatives at a very young age, hence deprived of education. Many women like Kamali are sold off in the name of marriage, only to be wronged and raped by their so-called husbands. The next two chapters showcase the myriad lusts and desires of women, only to be avenged later. Cheats and frauds are not gender-biased and this is reflected in 'Ek Tha Kapoor'. We'd also like to take you back to 1957 in a superb case study of how people were wrongly framed during the freedom movement of India. Many such cases are still pending in the court of law.
The next three chapters provide some humour to the serious reader and let you loosen yourself while you read about relevant issues like Beggary and obtaining fake degrees. All work and no play make Jack a dull boy! Hence the dose of humour for your palate. The last chapter is bound to leave you in tears when you read about Ganga and how she had been trafficked into a brothel like thousands of other teen girls.
The question is - can we do something for them? We can at least be aware of the steps that lead to these sins and spread the awareness. We can try to stop people who sell young girls to brothels. We can stop marital rape in our own homes.
Will we do so? Or just read the book and keep it in the shelf with a sigh?

A Book For Social Cause

Not every author accentuates to include his writing in a specific genre. Sometimes authors do write as they feel the urge, to let people know about the social injustice and prejudices that are plaguing our country. There are age-old, vicious, social norms which are still practiced in the remote villages in the name of tradition and most of the times the victims are women. The condition in modern, urban society are only flip side of the coin. Educated people find new ways of oppression which are much subtle and polished. Released at the Festival of Hope in Delhi, November 22, 2014, “Title is Untitled” by Santosh Avvannavar, Kundan Srivastava and Raghunath Babu Are, is a compilation of eleven such stories which brings forth this social unfairness through some fictitious characters.
The book can be termed as a literal awareness programme where the issues vary from rape to 498A, from human trafficking to child marriage and from the ”lucrative” profession of beggary to fake institutions who are exploiting millions of young people. The range is titanic but the stories are short and precise. They throw light on some rituals and traditions which neither have cultural nor social values and how they are instilled in the minds of poor, uneducated, rural population. There is a ‘Source’ mentioned at the end of each story which will enlighten you about the real scenario. The trio has done a commendable job to put such ‘cases’ in the form of stories.
Though all these issues are of no-nonsense type but there are occasional glints of humour which come as a cool breeze in the midst of dark, tragic tales of oppression. The language is extremely simple which makes it readable to even those people who don’t belong to the privileged section of the society and for whom Mr Santosh Avvannavar’s initiative, Amrita Foundation For HRD works. Personally I think that this book is an eye-opener for many of us. There are some proof-reading errors as well as typos which sometimes mar the smooth flow of reading. I hope that should be taken care of in the next edition.

A book that will feel you ashamed of your indifference to social wrongs around you

The courage shown by these three authors in projecting a commitment to stand by the rape victims is inspirational and it will give an initiative to many others to do the same. It is a great move to reach out to these victims. This is a book which will bring you out of the world of an indifferent slumber and will not allow you to pass comments like you always do when you read the daily paper or look at the television during a cup of morning coffee.
‘Title is Untitled’ is a confusing header Three authors have collaborated in completing this book that presents facts in an interesting way as other fiction writers do. They are Santosh Avvannavar; Raghunath Babu and Kundan Srivastava. The book rotates around the evils in modern society involving love, desire and anger. The story is well presented with just the right pinch of humour and it gives you greater insight and awareness of the bloody social evils that have corrupted Indian society today. There is plenty of hard work that has been put into this book and it is well supported with proper research and data. The confusing title will gel with you after going through the initial few pages and your doubts will be slowly quelled. The book will ignite your anticipation. You will be taken through a ride of domestic violence and sexual fantasies. You will come across the all familiar images of injustice being done at the hands of those very people who are supposed to be protecting you.
On the Indian literary scene, there is a need for more compositions like these instead of the run of the mill masala thrillers. I would congratulate the writers on their sincere attempt to put their points across in an aggressive fashion. Many social issues have been dealt with, capably, in this book. There was a need to do better proof-reading before publishing it but it can be pardoned in lieu of the bigger picture. There is plenty of scope for reflection on your part as a reader when you put the book down. It will open your minds to get out of the indifferent modes in life and do something about handling the wrongs that happen around you every day. The change has to be brought about, somehow. I personally feel that the youth of the country, particularly, the student groups should create vigilante bodies and take things into their hands rather than being docile and bothered about only `having a good time’ in their colleges or blowing way their parents’ hard-earned money on the mundane abnormalities of the corrupt life around us.
The compositional style in the book is mostly conversational and the authors have kept it simple for the readers with the utilization of dialects. The issues that have been brought out to the front are varied, ranging from rape to child marriage and from human trafficking to the big business of professional begging.
Overall, this book is a definite eye opener for many people who live in their respective comfort zones of indifference and those who fail to raise their voice against many social wrongs.
