About the Author
David Carus, author of "Super Artist - How To Take Flight As A Creator" and "Hip Hop Will Save The World" was born in Salinas, California, one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. He graduated from Georgetown University, double majoring in Government and English, in 2001 and returned home to make a difference in his community by teaching English at his old high school. He was soon fighting to improve education, including standardized testing, through leading student walk-outs, organizing parents to protest and fought the entire school district with great success. During this time he began a career as a rapper, established his own hip hop record label, sold thousands of albums and gained radio airplay. All of his efforts launched him into becoming the first rapper in U.S. history to run for Congress in 2004 at the age of 25. He later moved to New York City to expand his reach as an artist, selling more albums and began writing books. Within a few years he established himself as a leader amongst artists, launched the David Carus Show, the blog Artists Run This Planet, and became the lead vocalist of the X-Ray Poetz. Today he continues to make art that uplifts mankind and inspires other artists to do the same.

Hip Hop!!!!

Hip Hop Will Save the World. I can say that I was there from the start and I see it today as it continues to help the world.
I will never forget the day David first said we should go climb the top of a mountain. I honestly didn’t know what I got myself into but David must have climbed that mountain before and somehow didn’t think to tell me how hard core it would be! Climbing that mountain became the most extreme physical challenge I had ever endured and it turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Later David actually had the idea of recording us climbing that mountain and with the help of our buddy Gabriel we not only made it to the top, we also made an incredible music video — I got to carry a boom box while dressed up as Che Guevara!
I didn’t really care too much about music or hip hop before I met David but I became a musical beast after David taught me a little about freestyling, writing music and recording. I wrote whenever I got the chance and made some amazing stuff. I created my own masterpieces. When we got together and hung out we readied our minds with the world and created like true artists. There was never a dull moment and our thoughts were always reaching for that next level.
Being a part of David’s dream helped my own take shape. I wanted to learn about the great heroes of the past and how I could become one too. Now I’m a 6th grade teacher in the same school I went to when I was in 6th grade and I don’t just want to be a hero to my students, I want to help each of them make their own dreams come true and have their turn to be a hero.
Hip Hop Will Save the World shows the many sides of David: teacher, revolutionary, politician and artist! David was way ahead of his time. You won’t believe the disrespect and lack of faith certain individuals and so called leaders had towards him. They were threatened by David and for good reason.
I believed in David from the beginning and believe in him now more than ever. We need dreamers but even more than that we need the kind of dreamers that get others to dream. David is that kind of dreamer and his book is going to inspire a lot of people. I know it inspired me.

I started reading Hip Hop Will Save The World and ...

I started reading Hip Hop Will Save The World and with a nod to the title said to myself -- “Well, God help us all.” Yet I turned the last page and back to the beginning and re-read Hip Hop Will Save The World all the way through for a second time. The book is an education in how one by one, in our own ways, on terms we decide, we can be the essential agents of change in society and still somehow maintain our personal integrity. The book is about defining the decisions we are faced with. If I were to summarize what I took away, I’d say-- “God help us if we don’t.” Read the book. I am such a huge fan of David Carus.

HIP HOP WILL SAVE THE WORLD
I've known David Carus through his music, blogs and social media for a little while now. Having read a little about his involvement in student walkouts/protests and being the first hip hop artist to run for congress I was intrigued to find out more about the whole story.
I just finished reading this book and found it quite a unique and inspiring tale of one man's fight against a corrupt system.
One man, his integrity, his words and hip hop versus vested interests and dirty politics.
I think most of us have probably, at one time or another, considered what it would be like to really stand up and fight against injustice within authority; and maybe a few of us actually have. But no one has ever done it in quite the manner of David who, if you read this book, you will find doesn't seem to know what quitting is.
There's only one David Carus, that's for sure.
