Gemma died not knowing who killed her.
Life can be tough enough if one has the misfortune to have been into the body of the wrong gender. What with having to cope with rejection by family and friends, animosity, hatred and often violence and aggression from a society that refuses to understand because it is easier to hate than to accept and change one’s attitude. Just living each day as it comes is an uphill struggle for those fortunate enough to have either the finances or the support to exist within a social group.
For those left on the outside, the likelihood of slipping into prostitution, drugs and crime is high. The potential to be abused for the purposes of sex or pornography is even higher. There are just not that many well-paid jobs for those who have high medication bills, the possibility of expensive surgery and having to live day by day all at the same time.
The temptation to slide into prostitution to obtain that little bit extra is always present. For Gemma, a young person who started life as a boy, that temptation ended in the operating theatre of a hospital A & E after becoming an unwitting and unknowing pawn in an escalating war between those who manipulate and use those unfortunates as sexual slaves for personal gain.
Gemma’s death was the second of what could be a lot more, unless the police managed to identify and arrest those responsible. A tough job under normal circumstances, made tougher by the fact that the victims and potential victims were all wary of the authorities that represented a society that hates them.
Now a Detective and a married woman, who is best qualified to get into a community that feared the authorities as much as those who enslaved them, but Detective Nikki Calder.
Yet again, Nikki goes undercover with a TV documentary film crew to attempt to get to the bottom of who is doing what and to whom. This time, though, she does not have to pretend to belong to a different gender, just a different nationality. But being Canadian, pretending to be American isn’t that tough.
Just as she begins to make some progress, she gets some news that will make things even more complicated; Robert Telford, the Candy Cane Killer escapes from prison. It is a good chance that he has some unfinished business in Nikki’s back yard.
Can she do it again?

Another Proper English Novel from Tanya
By Charlie O
Like her other stories this one was well done and sparkled with insight into the underworld surrounding the T-Girl world. Even on this side of the Big Pond much of the story rings true with a War between what we call Mob Bosses that seek to control Prostitutes of all Genders, Drugs and associated business.
I have to admit that I picked up Dead End via Amazon Unlimited before reading The Candy Cane Club but after reading this as a Back Story went ahead and perched it for later.
Note that there is some graphic Sex included but no more than is needed for the reader to gain an understanding of the Real World that T-Girls and the Transgendered actually go through. I think it is much the same on both sides of the Pond.
One thing that made the liberal use of Alphabet Soup, Acronyms, livable was the inclusion of a Glossary of UK Terms at the beginning. Thanks for the effort from an American speaker, we have the same problem too.
Well Done and Thanks for Another Great Read.

An outstanding sequel
By Dallas Foard
Tis was a wonderful sequel to the original story, The Candy Cane Club. Tanya Allan has done it again. She has taken her well developed and very real characters from her novel The Candy Cane Club and placed them in another outstanding story.
Nikki is back and she has to delve into her own past and use her contacts from the Candy Cane Club case to help break another murder case. Someone is killing T girls again, and Nikki must go undercover again to solve the case and save her friends.
I would recommend this book to anyone fond of who dunnits or mysteries. Leaving the whole transgendered side of the story out, this is just a good old fashioned murder mystery. And oh yeah, let's not forget the return of Robert Telford........

This was a very good sequel to the first book
By Debbie Ballard
This was a very good sequel to the first book, and built on the characters quite nicely. The dialogue is very interesting and fun if a bit "preachy" for very short stretches. The book was very well researched, but many of the premises both books are also a stretch of reality. There are many books that have the main character as being intersexed to the point of having ovaries and more, but this is actually an extremely rare condition. The second book goes deeper into the world of those who are forced to turn to the streets to survive and to get the medications and surgeries they need. Some of the stories will break your heart, others mill inspire you.
