About the Author
Connie Newcomb has handled show dogs since 2008. She has four champion Chihuahuas. Her dog Rocky was an Award of Merit winner at Westminster 2010, and was ranked the number two grand champion Chihuahua in Pennsylvania last year. Yoshi, her Japanese Chin, was featured in Kate Lacey’s Show Dogs: A Photographic Breed Guide. Ms. Newcomb dedicates a good deal of time to shelter dogs, especially the seniors who need loving homes. A portion of the proceeds of this book will be donated to Peaceable Kingdom Animal Shelter. Connie is also a certified Reiki practitioner for both humans and animals. She lives in Eastern Pennsylvania with her husband, Jim, seven Chihuahuas, one Japanese Chin, and two cherished mutts. This her second book. Finally a light-hearted story for doglovers!

“Dogs mark time in our lives.” Indeed, this memoir, presented as a series of standalone episodes about dogs (and a few cats) and their heartbreaking backstories and mischievous quirks (and an astonishingly pervasive penchant for stealing food), is really the unfolding of a family saga.

From the first, Rin Tin Tin, every bit as heroic and handsome as his famous namesake, to the last, Terra, a lovely and well-behaved Chihuahua-terrier who was marked "unadoptable" for no other reason than that she was already ten years old, Connie's writing brings each of these canine companions to life, highlighting the indelible roles they've played in creating lively and loving homes for herself and her family, a few of whom contribute stories of their own.

My favorite has to be the side-splittingly hilarious chapter in which Connie's brother Chris recounts his memories of the tenacious little terror, Garcia, whose legendary trouble-seeking ways drives Chris to recall, in his despair,"The Second Coming" by Yeats.

The memoir is full of touching moments punctuated by heartfelt appeals to bring to light the plight of beautiful and lovable dogs who are abandoned, unwanted, abused, and otherwise slip through the cracks.

Dog Stories with Happy Endings is at turns guffaw-inducing and poignant, and lives up to its title by bringing us all a happy ending.

There are many, many books out there that will make you cry about the passing of a dog. This book is a joy to read. It's funny and heart warming. My only wish would be that it were four times as long.

It's not that the book is bad, but it is unneeded

It's not that the book is bad, but it is unneeded. First of all, the job market for English teachers (both university and non-university) has changed dramatically in the last year. The market for university jobs is flooded. A Master's degree is no longer enough. It must be a Master's in Education. The number of incoming freshman will plummet in 2017 (and continue for years) due to a dip in the birth rate in 1999. Second of all, all of the information is available for free with a Google search.

Reading this short book you can see how the changes in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass have changed the way Catholics believe (and thus, how they live). The changes in the Mass that we see today are NOT in the Vatican 2 documents but inventions of man purposely imposed to water down the faith -- to protestantize the Catholic mass (and, thereby, the Cathol-ICS).

This book along with Bella Dodd's "School of Darkness" (which is available for free on-line) paint a horrific picture of what has happened to the Catholic Church in modern times. Understanding the tactics the mystical body of Satan has used against the Church will help Catholics to not understand how we have gone wrong, but the implications of those errors and the importance of correcting them in a timely manner.

Nor the average team-up it first appears. A must read.

If anyone had said to me 6 months ago that I would not only adore Amazing Spider-Man, but also be raving about another 2 Spider series, being complimentary about an anthology title and hoping there is more to come from the other Spider-characters, well frankly I would have said you were mad. Other than Ultimate Spider-Man which reignited my love of comics back in 2000, Spider-Man has always been a long long way down my list of favourite characters, to such an extent that in the build up to Superior Spider-Man I was cheering for Doc Ock.

I really am not sure what it is I dislike about the character, but the films definitely have not helped. They emphasised the most boring part of the character, his disassociation and inability to fit in because he was a nerd, and that made the films painful to watch. Conversely the Spider-Man in comics is a wise cracking, confident, entrepreneurial genius with a host of incredibly hot women chasing after him. This comic focuses around 3 Spider-Clones, Ben Riley who thinks like Peter Parker, Ultimate Black Widow and my favourite, Kaine. While I have had this active dislike of Peter Parker, Kaine had started to change my opinion of all things Spider with his more brutal anti-hero persona and then his recent drift back towards the more heroic.

The first thing that strikes you about this comic is that the cover does not do the art justice. It is ok, its dynamic and it is about the same quality as you get on other comic covers (that aren’t drawn by Mark Brooks…) However when you turn to the interior you get these incredibly detailed characters drawn in immaculate detail with beautifully done directional shading and colouring. This does not do what a lot of comics seem to be trying by making the first few pages the best in the book and then letting it slip as it progresses. I am not sure whether it is intentional to catch people who read the first few pages to see if they want to buy it, or if the artist runs out of time and has to rush the book later on, but either way, it does not happen in this issue.

This is probably the most excited I have been about a limited series since Thanos Rising last year, although for completely different reasons. That was intrinsically distinctive and about one of the most talked about villains in Marvel history. I wanted to read that long before I saw it, even if it had been rubbish I knew it would be important. This on the other hand caught me unaware and I had passed over reading it this week until the end of the releases because the cover did not inspire me and other books looked on the surface more interesting. This is simply the best book from the best series in the best event this year and if not for books like this and it was only AXIS going on at the moment, I would have utterly lost faith in Marvel.

The comic book came in great condition all new no damage and shipping went well. Well anyway I'm a big fan of spider man specially that its spider universe well spider verse every single different kind of spider man wow cross over to this here when i read it all it was great well except for tony stark in iron man wow to think he is so well he just lost his mind like his mind is in a different reality wow and his eyes were like wow dang i got to say this its great comic here.

I still can't believe Ben travelled for 6 years. He has an incredible journey and his book has more travel wisdom to share than I had ever imagined. I found it logically structured and easy to read. Highly recommended!

What's not to love?

What's not to love? It's Odelia Grey back for more mystery and fun. Sue Ann Jaffarian has gotten better and better as the books in both her series(she also writes the Granny Apples mystery series) continue on. This time out we got the whole emotional spectrum from being saddened by death, murder and suicide to happiness over a core characters growth and happiness to fear and shock in the climactic scene.

I was also really surprised by who the villian was in this book. A lot of times I've figured out the culprit or at least some of the culprits before the end of the book but Sue Ann flipped the switch on me and neither one of my guesses was correct. I love that! I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you haven't read any Sue Ann Jaffarian, either the Odelia Grey or Granny Apples series, what are you waiting for?

Good mystery!

This is the ninth book in the series and only the second one I have read but I did enjoy it. Would love sometime to read the whole series. I like the characters. The mystery is good till the end. Easy to follow the lives of the characters even when I have not met them before. Lots of drama, some action. A clean entertaining read.

Odella Grey is the main character. She works for a lawyer Steel. She is middle age and heavy. Her husband is in a wheel chair.

Greg is a businessman. He plays wheel chair basketball but he can't play rugby because he is too physical for it.

I had never heard of rugby before and would like to see a game played sometime.

They are at a rugby match out of town and rooting for their friends. When they witness a murder in front of them. They know the deceased, the accused who started to beat up on the court.

I thought it was funny that everyone of their friends wants in on their case that they assume they will be nosing around in. Even Odella's mother. Their friends even a cop in a nearby city. Even her boss Steel who has his own drama going on wants to be involve ed.
The characters are all different than you expect. From detectives, lawyers, businessman, hookers, quadriplegic rugby players, hired killers. You never know who will show up in the story.

I hated every time I had to put the book down to answer the phone or door I just wanted to find out what happened next. I guessed wrong on who the killer was and why.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Midnight Ink. In return I agreed to give honest review of Hell on Wheels.

The setting for this book is in California around orange county area.

I want to read more about Odelia & her friends and co-workers in the future.

Talk About a High Stakes Game

While Odelia’s paraplegic husband Greg cannot play quad rugby, he has always been a fan of the sport. It’s a game played by quadriplegics as they try to get a ball across their opponent’s goal line. Odelia has become a fan as well, and this particular weekend finds the two of them down in San Diego rooting for their friends on a local team in a major tournament. Unfortunately, that also means a run in with Peter, an obnoxious quadriplegic who makes a pass at Odelia in front of Greg. He’s also a poor sport on the court. However, they are shocked when their friend Rocky loses it and starts beating on him. They are even more surprised when Peter dies. Obviously, it looks like Rocky did it, but Odelia and Greg question what they’ve seen and want to help in any way they can.

Meanwhile, Odelia’s boss Mike Steel has gotten into a beating of his own out in Perris, California. No one even knew he was going to be there, yet he comes home bruised and asking Odelia to cover for him at work. What’s really going on?

This is a favorite series of mine, so I sat down to start reading with high expectations. The book didn’t disappoint in the slightest. The main plot and the sub-plot keep the story moving forward quickly at all times, and they both take some pretty surprising twists and turns before the climax. While the main mystery is definitely serious, the sub-plot with Steel is hilarious and provides some great lines. The characters are as strong as ever. I just love this cast! The new characters are great as well.

Now I just need to wait impatiently for the next book in the series to come out. Fans of Odelia will love this book, and if you are looking for a fun mystery series, you’ll definitely want to meet Odelia and her friends.

Laugh out loud examination of the midlife crisis - for anyone approaching 43 from either direction

I first met Darrel Bristow-Bovey on a 2 week cruise in November 2014. He was one of the people assigned to our evening dining table. As we went through the ritual of introductions he mentioned writing a newspaper column and recently publishing a book. I didn’t think too much about it at the time, but as a few days passed and we had more interactions my interest was piqued. I decided when we next made landfall, and I had access to free internet I would look him up. Internet on board ship was slow and expensive, and even though I was curious it did not have the intensity that required financial investment.
So as I drank my coffee, I accessed Google to search for Darrel Bristow-Bovey (I had asked him how to spell his name the night before). Wow! I was impressed with the response. I thought “This guy has got more hits than Pete Rose. Images, magazine articles, interviews, books, and television. Who knew! A genuine celebrity here in our midst. Yet so humble and unassuming.”
Upon arriving home I went to Amazon and downloaded his new book One Midlife Crisis and a Speedo to my Kindle and started reading. I got about half way through in my first sitting. I was glad I hadn't downloaded the book earlier to read on the plane. Everyone would be wondering why I was convulsed with spasms of laughter. I thought perhaps I had discovered the illegitimate child of Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry. If I hadn’t met a woman claiming to be Darrel’s mother, I would be investigating that possibility.
So now I have finished the book and discovered in addition to the self-deprecating hilarity there are also insights and life decisions that are moving and thought provoking especially those that parallel my own life.
Darrel, you need to come to the USA and promote this book. It is too good not to tell everyone about it. You can stay at our house for you east coast tour.

Highly entertaining

This book had me laughing out loud and also gave me moments of reflection. It is written in a totally candid, honest, smooth writing style.

You will be entertained (loved the part about the Tim Noakes/banting diet) and you will also be struck by the depth of emotions (most notably for me the sections referring to his father).

I absolutely loved it and will be recommending it to family and friends.

Hilarious! And poignant. If you're South African and ovr 40 PLEASE read this book. Hell, if you're not South African and over 40 please read the book. You'll relate and feel a tiny bit better - or at least have a laugh at yourself.
