"Pettersen's (A Scandalous Husband, 2014, etc.) children's novella asks: What happens when a girl wants a horse more than anything? Suzy Jenkins is a 6-year-old girl who wants a pony for Christmas. She's come to understand that Santa just isn't sure whether she could handle taking care of such an animal. However, she's done her research, and she's believes she's more than ready to take on the responsibility when Santa finally brings her small horse...As the holiday season progresses, she continues to get ready. She also charms Mr. Barrett, who owns a ranch and many racing horses, and Carl, an elderly man who appears not to have a home. In the end, Suzy finds herself at the center of a series of events that mends one family and helps to create a new one. Over the course of this book, it becomes clear that the story is primarily about different kinds of love--between Suzy and her mother, Suzy and Carl, and between Suzy's mother and Mr. Barrett. Pettersen's choice to tell the story through Suzy's eyes makes it charming from start to finish.The budding romance between Suzy's mother and Mr. Barrett is understated, and Suzy's kindness to Carl is presented as a young girl doing her best to be good. Pettersen supplies hints of tragic pasts for many of the characters, but they're softened when seen through Suzy's young eyes. A PONY FOR CHRISTMAS: A Holiday Novella
Story of Suzy and it's just a few weeks away from Christmas. She's walking home alone after school, trying to hide from the boys who will throw snowballs at her and she sees the old man who carries a garbage bag.
Her mother said they could go to the free fair the next day and all she can think about is a pony she wants for Christmas. She plans what she will feed him.
Love learning new things while I read a story. She overhears the men talking about the fairgrounds barn where Carl lives and they fear he will freeze to death.
The boss finds her mother fun and they laugh as Suzy is led to see Oreo, the goat where she also sees where Carl lives.
They are being treated like royalty! Like the ending how things all fall into place. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.

A PONY FOR CHRISTMAS is the perfect story to read on Christmas Eve! Bev Pettersen wrote a heartwarming story that will surely please any readers from 6 and older if you are young at heart. It's a beautiful short novella, that tells the story of Suzy, who wished a pony for Christmas! Even, if, we know what will happen next, it's so sweet and charming, you'll love to read it out loud during the festive season. Touching story of Suzy and Carl. Recommended for all ages!

A Pony for Christmas is terrific!!!!

I love anything Bev writes but this book was special. I used it as a learning tool as I home school my niece and nephew. This book was warm and engaging. It also left the door open for continuation. As I child I loved ponies and horses. I never could have one but my friends always did and they always allowed me to be around them to love on them and ride them. As an adult, I still have a deep love for them that is therapeutic for me as well. I have stage 4 RA and horses are great therapy as I am sure Bev will even agree. The characters were well thought out and developed. She even through in some twists and surprises that I will not give away. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves horses, and I would also recommend it to teachers to use in their classroom. There are always values, lessons and morals we try to instill in our children whether they are ours or our students, and this book allows just that. A Christmas Carol is a classic, and if put out there, this one could be too! I will also share my nieces review right along with mine because this was part of her assignment. She had to write a letter to the author, an article about the author and she had to write a review.

A Pony for Christmas by Bev Pettersen was a good book because I read it in ONE day! And I'm only 9 years old! I am kind of like Suzy because I want a pony. My favorite character is Mr. Barrett. I like him because I think it was nice that he gave Suzy a big candy cane for Christmas, and I think Suzy thought it was nice too. I recommend this book to anyone who loves ponies/horses or to anyone who loves warm hearted books.
