Exciting and Suspensful Novel by Helen Christine

I received this book as a Christmas gift and once I began reading I had difficulty putting it down. "Full Disclosure" is a very well written, suspenseful look into what can happen when greed and dishonesty work themselves into a company. I felt as if I were there with Jenny and Alex as they noticed unusual activities and worked through dangerously trying to solve the mystery. In my opinion Helen Christine's first novel is a must read.

Good mystery set in Seattle

I have never read a fiction book with the stock market as the setting, so I learned something besides being entertained with a mystery story. I enjoyed it taking place in Seattle, where I lived for a while, and I could picture clearly the various places she described. This was a good first book and I look forward to her future stories.

I like the fact is not another sex book it's realistic and sweet not to long and not to short. It is a book you would read over and over again. Love it.

Sweet Romance

Naylor Cardell new CEO had a dilemma, he fell in love at first sight with Romillie Fairfax.
Although he could command a large business, he was @ a loss as how 2 get Romellie interested in him.
When he found out she was having trouble that caused her 2 sleep walk, he was there 2 help.
He was a true hero, he always believed her & never tried to take over.
Even when he pretended not 2 be interested in her he couldn't do enough 2 make her way easier.
Secondary characters Eleanor Rom's mom was a sweet rug, who had a ex-husband from hell.
Lewis Shelby was in love with Eleanor, but he didn't do anything 2 help either with the women's finances, or the mean father/ex-husband.
In fact he had a heart attack so he needed Eleanor's help. But it did cause her 2 buck up.
This isn't one of Ms Steele's best works, most of her books make the woman look so silly or so naive she needs a keeper or the man is so stupified by the woman he doesn't know his own mind,but it was still a 10.

About the Author
Kathleen Graham-Gandy is a retired banker who has always had the desire to write. Her writing experiences include training manuals for loan officers, and as a journalist for a local newspaper. She is a volunteer in civic organizations and her community. She loves going into local schools to share with students about history in her local area. Graham-Gandy is the author of three books: “Mount Pleasant’s 100 South Main Street,” “One Man’s Vision…One County’s Reward,” (How the life of James H. The life and times of an unusual New England family engage the reader wholeheartedly in this memoir. Editor-in-chief of Yankee magazine and Old Farmer's Almanac since 1970, Hale, born in Boston in 1933, recalls his privileged if offbeat heritage. When his older brother Drake, brain-damaged at birth, was sent to the Rudolph Steiner School in Switzerland, his parents were inspired to adopt Steiner's controversial experimental principles of education. Purchasing land in backwoods Maine, the family established a cultural-spiritual center that attracted such artists as the late Friedrich Schorr, then deemed the world's greatest Wotan, whom the author remembers singing the Wagnerian role in the wilderness with other guests from the Metropolitan Opera. Meaty anecdotes abound in the book as Hale comes of age, is a bit wild but finally settles and marries in 1958. That same year, his mother suggests to her brother that he hire this son on "the little magazine . . . Yankee," just founded by the family. It's a wonderful story, especially moving when Hale describes his first, only visit with Drake, who still lives in Basel. Photos not seen by PW.

Though their circumstances are wholly dissimilar, Hale and Houston each convey Thoreau's sense of having been "born in the nick of time." Born into a Boston Brahmin family in 1933, Hale ( Inside New England ) is the quintessential New Englander. As editor-in-chief of Yankee magazine and the Old Farmer's Almanac, he knows the Yankee character well, and his richly anecdotal autobiography demonstrates his development of such "Yankee traits" as ingenuity, frugality, and shrewdness. Though the tone is dry and Buckleyesque, these are poignant tales of tenacity in the face of trauma: the brain-damaged older brother Hale never knew; a childhood colored by enemas and Anthroposophy; his father's suicide; his wife's alcoholism. Both novelist (Love Life) and essayist (Californians) , Houston is concerned less with character traits than characters, of which there seems to be no shortage in his native Golden Stateguys like "The Hip Plumber," "The New-Age Barber," and "The Kung Fu Teacher with Eyes Like G. Gordon Liddy." But not all are casual acquaintances or longtime heroes like the aging Count Basie: the strongest portraits in Houston's gallery are those of his country music-playing father and his "dangerous" Texan uncle. I had tried for a long time to get this book. The service that was provided by Amazon was great. It took less than a week from the time the book was ordered till it was in my hands. This is a superb autobiography. I regard this book as must reading for anyone who enjoys Yankee Magazine and The Old Farmer's Almanac.

Very well written humourous and moving account of a remarkable family and a young boy who grew up to become quite normal in spite of it.Captures theunique qualities of rural Washington county Maine residents very well indeed .Great book!

absolutely delightful account of a most unusual family

For those of us who search for first-rate autobiographies, Mr. Hale has given us a rare gift- a fascinating account of his growing up in a most unusual setting, even by the standards of New England eccentricity. Raised by loving, extremely wealthy parents who abided by - and built a community based upon - an ahead-of-its-time Swiss educational philosophy, Mr. Hale enjoyed a mostly halcyon boyhood which Tom Sawyer would have envied. There is a dark side to his life as well, and Hale doesn't shirk from the harsher realities. This is a first-rate read - a genuine piece of Americana by the editor of Yankee magazine.

what takes a paragraph to write about could have been better conveyed with some photos

This book is not for those who are visual learners nor for children. As with many design or assembly directions, what takes a paragraph to write about could have been better conveyed with some photos. There are far too few pictures/images/diagrams and one must slog through the text. Unfortunately, Amazon's preview only let me look through the Introduction so there was no real way to know about the absolute dearth of images in the actual chapters.

Oh, well. At least it was only .99

Looking for a good book to read? I highly recommend Maralys Wills' memoir. A true story told with the author's gift for engaging the reader until the very last page and then leave one wanting more. Wills opens the door to her unconventional upbringing and the reader joins her on that roller coaster ride of triumph and challenge with humor sprinkled along the track

As a fan of Maralys Wills' previous works, I was not disappointed by her latest book. Truth be told, I could barely put it down. Like many, my upbringing was not exactly conventional, and I found her personal journey intriguing, funny, heart-breaking, illuminating, and just beautifully told. Sweet and thought provoking....

A touching memoir of Maralys Wills' roller coaster ride to the career of her dreams

Maralys Wills has done it again. Pulling from her own extraordinary background, Maralys has crafted another touching memoir. In The Tail of My Mother's Kite, the author shares her roller coaster upbringing with an unorthodox and highly unpredictable mother--a mother who was loving, generous and kind, as well as impetuous, uncaring, self-absorbed, and often absent for long periods of time. Yo yoing between privilege and depravation, warm hugs and neglect, as well as multiple uprooting's (sometimes with and often without her mother), Maralys refused to be deterred from reaching her childhood dream of becoming an author. Though forced to endure the new kid syndrome in one school after another before she reached adulthood, Maralys went on to college, graduated from UCLA, is happily married and was the mother of six. While coping with the loss of two sons who died in hang gliding accidents, she crafted "Higher than Eagles, one of the most poignant memoirs I have yet to read. Somehow while dealing with her sons' deaths Maralys crafted an uplifting story. Of course there are tear jerking moments, but there is also light hearted humor. She touches on this tragic period in The Tail of My Mother's Kite. Maralys Wills is the author of 15 books and still writing.
Maralys' story validates one of my strong beliefs: It is not what happens to you, but what you do about it that make you there person you are.

This is certainly a unique entry in the Red Mining novelettes. Whereas many of the stories revolve around travel, this one in particular seems to center around Steve's house. Too bored to go anywhere, he insists on a life of solitude. While this can seem to remove the adventure from a tale, in this case, it leaves room for in-jokes and smart dialogue. While this is definitely the odd duck out, as far as the way these novelettes are written, its still a great, funny story!

About the Author
JD Phillips is a native of Bartholomew County, Indiana. She attended IUPUC, where she majored in psychology and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University. She is currently employed by a residential treatment facility for troubled youth. She has been writing since childhood and has had several short works published in "Literalines," a magazine published out of IUPUC. Her first two novels were "Dreaming While You Sleep: Book One of Footprints on the Other Side," followed shortly thereafter by its sequel "A Beautiful Rain." "Tainted," her third novel, was followed by "The Dead Pool," which was released in 2007 and received an honorable mention at the 2008 New York Book Festival. "Mad Angel" was released in July 2009. "From Ashes" is her second Words Take Flight Books release.

There's dark, and then there's From Ashes dark....

When was the last time you read a book that actually scared you? The last time you read a straightforward, relentless and unflinching tale of terror? That is precisely what JD Phillips delivers with From Ashes. This novel hooked me in the first chapter and held me until the final page. As visceral and disturbing as footage presented at a murder trial, but never gratuitously so; this is foremost a literary character study of man at his absolute breaking point. And then some. The nightmarish set-up, focus and intensity reminded me of Edgar Allan Poe at his most feverish.

My favorite books are horrors

My favorite books are horrors,thrillers and suspense and JD Phillips hit all 3 nails on the head with this one. I was so bothered by parts of it i could barely stand to read it but i was so intrigued and excited to finish it i couldn't put it down. This is a must read! I'm hoping for a second book.

This book allured me into a world that grasped me by the throat from very the beginning and held me hostage until I believed I was bleeding. A very well paced suspense horror story that will haunt you long after you've finished reading it. I look forward to a sequel!

The title of this collection of cartoons by Julian Lake was inspired by the "The March of Folly," a stunning work by the late Barbara Tuchman. To try and explain why certain political disasters in history have occurred, Tuchman uses the very apt construct of "folly," which she defines as the "pursuit of policy contrary to the self-interest of the constituency or state involved." Tuchman analyzes four periods in history that are characterized by enormous folly. Julian Lake's collection is in many ways about a fifth example of such a phenomenon.

Surely the last two decades in which so-called "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" has been called "mysterious" over and over in a cult-like manner (and in the manner of the Big Lie) qualifies as another period of egregious folly. Anyone who has read the lucid work of Neenyah Ostrom and Hillary Johnson on "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" knows precisely what I am alluding to. And if you don't know, you should find out, lest you be caught aiding and abetting this great folly.

That an epidemic as serious as "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome," and so obviously connected to the AIDS epidemic, could be treated to this very day as a "mystery" by the government, by researchers, by the media, and even by most of the patients, has not reduced Julian Lake to tears, for like most humorists, this great tragedy--and folly--is at times, downright funny. Morbid maybe, perhaps dark, and maybe of the gallows school of comedy, but still funny.

Julian Lake has tried to capture the folly of two decades of an obvious Chronic Fatigue Syndrome coverup in a manner that is surprisingly three-dimensional, given his hostility to the medical establishment that has been playing deadly political games with CFS. While trying to use humor to capture the horrific plight of CFS patients, in Julian Lake’s democratically mischievous world view, some of the CFS patients have themselves become little emperors without you-know-what. In this collection of cartoons, Julian Lake has given us a rich universe of CFS folly. Unless your easily offended and suffer from CFS political correctness (a new CFS symptom?), don't be afraid to enter Julian Lake’s world and have a few laughs. After all, laughter boosts your immune system. And maybe from a political viewpoint, the best antidote to folly is humor.

love that dry sarcastic humor

Anyone who has been dealing with the ineptitude of the government, medical establishment, and the paid off patient "support" groups for CFS (bought/supported by gov't & big pharma), will enjoy this. Short one-liners for those with cognitive difficulties can even enjoy. The term CFS was a government cover-up for infectious Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (a non-HIV/AIDs disease). Further change to CFS diagnosis requirements has turned it into a waste-bucket name of misdiagnosis. Highly recommend 2 follow-up books. "Osler's Web " by Hillary Johnson and "Plague: One Scientist’s Intrepid Search for the Truth about Human Retroviruses and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Autism, and Other Diseases" by Ken Heckenlively and Judy Mikovits.

Lucky Vol. 13!

The previous volumes seemed to be getting too bogged down in over-the-top fanservice that I was beginning to fear for the future of this series. But this volume seems to have sobered up from the last couple of volumes' tired "Trip/fall/peek-a-boob" routine, which is great. There's still plenty of fanservice to go around, though it's much more balanced.

The story is beginning to push itself into the middle of things more (in vol. 13 especially), which the series definitely needed. I finished the volume eager to find out how the main trio's new situation will figure out.

But really, 5 stars for the true star of the manga, Gendo "Based God" Ikari. With lines like "Where are my glasses? I can't be a meganekko without my glasses." you just keep coming back for more of the man.

Perhaps it’s time to accept the fact that the story of “Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project,” a romantic comedy version of the hugely popular series, is going nowhere. Or if it does, it does very slowly. With Volume 15 already published in Japan (first volume pubished about 9 years ago), that's something of a feat.

One good thing about “Raising Project” is that the series keeps its light-hearted touch throughout, never posing to take itself too seriously. This doesn’t change in this volume. Once again SEELE commences its attack, but somehow it ends up with comedy and fan service including nudity.

One good thing about this particular volume is that the manga artist Osamu Takahashi stopped having characters (mainly Shinji and Asuka/Rei/whoever around him) bump into each other. It seems as if Takahashi has decided to forget the origin of this spin-off and focus the romantic relationship between Shinji and Rei.

Finally, Osamu Takahashi’s artwork is as fine as ever. The comic is no longer refreshing as it first appeared, but his illustration is always appealing.
